Car Rental in Baku: Prices, Requirements and Where to Pick Up

Renting a car in Baku is the easiest way to see more than the Old City and the boulevard. Visitors pick one up for a weekend trip to Quba or Gabala, business travellers book a week to get between meetings, and residents take one for a month while their own car is in the garage. This guide covers what people usually ask before booking: prices, documents, deposit, insurance and where you can collect the car.

How much does car rental in Baku cost

Rental is charged per day, meaning per 24 hours. The minimum rental period at TrustRent is 2 days. If you return the car later than the time you picked it up, one more day is added to the bill, so it is worth planning your drop-off time carefully, especially with an evening flight.

Prices by car class

  • Economy: from 40 AZN per day (Kia Rio, BYD Qin Plus, BAIC U5 Plus)
  • Mid-size: from 50 AZN per day (Kia K3)
  • Crossovers: from 50 AZN per day (Kia Sportage, Changan UNI-T)
  • Business: from 90 AZN per day (Toyota Camry)
  • SUVs: from 90 AZN per day (Toyota Land Cruiser Prado)
  • Minivans: from 90 AZN per day (Mercedes-Benz V-Class)
  • Sport and premium: from 180 AZN per day (Range Rover)

These are base rates. The final price depends on the rental length, the season, the insurance you choose, the delivery location and any extras. The longer you rent, the lower the daily rate, so a weekly or monthly rental works out much cheaper per day than a two-day hire. In summer and during holidays the cheap economy cars go first, so book a few weeks ahead if your dates fall in high season.

Where to pick up the car: airport, city or office

You do not have to come to the office. When booking, you choose both the pickup and the return location, and they can be different. The delivery fee depends on the address and shows up in the booking total straight away.

Baku airport car rental

Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) is about 25 km from the city centre. Our manager meets you after landing and hands over the car and the paperwork right at the airport, so you drive straight to your hotel without hunting for a taxi. Add your flight number to the booking so we can wait if the flight is delayed. You can also drop the car off at the airport before departure, which helps when check-in time is tight.

Delivery around the city

The car can be brought to your hotel, apartment or any address in central Baku or the outer districts. Delivery to Sumgait is also available. This option suits travellers who want a few days on foot first and the car later, and locals who prefer to sign the contract near home.

Pickup at the office

The TrustRent office is at 559B L. Imanov Street, Baku. Here you can take your time inspecting the car, ask questions about the contract and, if you like, switch to another available model.

Rental requirements in Baku

Age, experience and documents

The standard requirements are age 24 to 65 and at least 2 years of driving experience. Some cars are available to drivers from 21 or over 65, with a double excess and a double deposit. You will need your passport and a valid driving licence. In some cases an International Driving Permit is also required, so check whether your licence is accepted when you book. One additional driver is included in the price.

Deposit and renting without a deposit

The deposit starts at 300 AZN for standard cars and can go up to 3500 AZN for premium models. You can pay it by Visa or Mastercard, bank transfer or cash. A cash deposit is returned the same day after the car is checked, while a card hold is released within 3 to 30 days. Fines, missing fuel and damage are deducted from the deposit, so take photos of the car from every side at pickup.

Insurance options

Every rate includes compulsory insurance, theft protection, accident damage cover and third-party liability. The options differ in the excess, meaning the amount you pay yourself if something happens.

Standard

Included in the price. Deposit 300 AZN, your liability up to 1000 AZN.

Extended

Also free of charge. Adds cover for glass, tyres, underbody and roof, plus natural disasters and vandalism. Deposit 250 AZN, liability up to 500 AZN. A sensible choice if you are heading to the mountains, where some roads are gravel.

Premium

Costs 33 AZN and covers all risks with zero excess. Both the deposit and your liability are zero, which makes it the only way to rent a car in Baku without a deposit.

Which car to choose

For the city, a compact economy sedan is the practical choice. Rush-hour traffic in Baku is heavy and parking in the centre is limited, so a smaller car saves both money and time. For trips around Azerbaijan, look at crossovers and SUVs: the main highways are in good condition, but roads to mountain villages can be narrow and steep. Popular drives from Baku:

  • Gobustan and the mud volcanoes, about 60 km
  • Shamakhi and Ismayilli, about 120 km to Shamakhi
  • Quba, Khinalug and Shahdag, about 170 km to Quba
  • Gabala and Sheki, 220 to 300 km

For families or groups of 6 or more, a minivan is the way to go. Any car can come with an infant seat, child seat or booster, plus a SIM card with mobile data so you stay connected from day one.

Driving tips

There are plenty of speed cameras in Baku and on the highways, and limits sometimes change over short stretches. Fines are sent to the rental company and deducted from your deposit, so watch the signs more closely than you would at home. The car is returned with the same fuel level it was given with, and filling up yourself is usually cheaper than paying for the shortfall.

You can book online with a 20 or 30% prepayment, and the balance and deposit are paid at pickup. If you need a specific model or a long-term rental, it is quicker to message us on WhatsApp or Telegram. TrustRent is on the ACRA car rental association White List, and every car in the fleet is no older than 4 years.
