From the “Sights of Azerbaijan” series: Our client from Russia sent a photo near to the Mardakan Castle (Baku).

Mardakan Castle or Quadrangular Castle – located in the village of Mardakan, near the center of Baku.
The castle was built in the XIV century by the son of Shirvanshah Manuchehr III, Ahsitan I of the Kesranida dynasty. This fortress was erected in honor of the brilliant victory of Ahsitan over the enemy.

The place for the construction of the fortress was chosen in such a way that from here the coastal shores and the fortresses of Gala and Ramana were visible. The fortress was used as the location of the military garrison and observation post.
