From the “Sights of Azerbaijan” series: Our client from Saudi Arabia sent a photo near to the Qosha Qala (Baku).

The main symbol of the Baku city is one of the main entrances to the ancient city of Icheri Sheher – Qosha Qala gate (old “Shamakhi Gate”). It is a horizontal composition with a horned bull’s head (an ancient symbol of Baku) in the center, symmetrical glazed figures on the left and right, and solar discs. Outer fortress walls were destroyed in 1886 and its gate was rebuilt on the wall of the inner fortress – the Shah Abbas gate.

Today, one of two automobile entrances to Icheri Sheher passes through the Qosha Qala gate. Those who wanted to visit the Icheri Sheher by car should remember that entry there is paid. At the entrance, you will need to pay 2 AZN, and each additional hour of stay will cost another 1 AZN.
